One of the world-known events surely is the Wimbledon. It is a famous and a popular tennis match. At the beginning it didn’t use to be a tennis match but it was a garden party in the summertime where people could spend their spare time. It was sort of a social life. Nowadays it has strict rules and it is very difficult to become a player. It is the competition among the best tennis-players in the world.
The first tournament took place in 1877. 200 spectators watched the first tournament. 600 mil. spectators from 52 countries of the world watched the final in 1992. Women couldn’t play till 1883. They used to be only spectators and they used to encourage players. The winner of the 1. tournament was Spencer Gore.
Clothes have changed. Men used to wear long cream trousers and shirts with long sleeves. When the weather was bad, they used to wear caps and jackets. Women used to wear long shirts, hats and long high-neck blouses with long sleeves. It was very difficult to play for most of them. Nowadays players wear clothes which is very similar to casual clothes. Women wear T-shirts and short skirts. Men wear T-shirts and cycling shorts.
A tennis racket has changed too. It used to have irregular shape. It was made of wood. Now it has egg shape and it is much lighter. Everyone can choose which one he wants. Rackets usually differ in a price and in a quality .The net was lower in the past. Security is necessary nowadays. It is much commercialized. Money plays a big role. Players can receive a big amount of it. In 1992 Andre Agassi received for his victory 265 000.
