The reason was the religions ritual. It was played in amphitheatre with perfect acoustics. Then the theatre was extended to others countries to other civilisation. The reasons are now: entertainment, moral teaching, political persuasion (p. přesvědčení). It is played on various places: streets, open spaces, markets, squares, churches.
The one of the symbol of the Czech nation is The Czech National Theatre. It was founded in 1868 and finished in 1881 from plans of architect Josef Zítek and completed by Josef Schulz. After the fire the theatre was again reopened by Smetana's Libuše in 1883. The N. T. was founded by a public donation sent in from the whole nation, that's why on the curtain there is written: "The Nation itself." There are lots of ornaments and symbols of the Czech nation. It is very valuable monument.
In our town there is one theatre but the actors are usually from the other towns so we have no standing scene. The performance is more than once in the month. In Žďár there is an amateur ensemble. Our school organise collective tour to the theatres in Brno or Prague. I have visited lots performances in Brno in Janáček Theatre. I have seen opera, ballet or operetta. In Prague we visit the English performances. I have seen Oliver Twist. I like visiting theatre but I don't have to go there often.
In the theatre you have contact with the actors. If they forget the text, they have to make improvisation because it is impossible to interrupt (stop) the performance. The actors are limited by the space and technical facilities. The actors have to wear the suitable clothes for this concrete role like on TV or film.
